The Logos Club: ‘Challenging, Inspiring, Friendship’
If you are interested in discussing various topics about life, philosophy or any other subject that comes to mind that will challenge your brain to think and analyze, Logos Club is the place for you. Here you will have the chance to express your opinion, hear other people’s points of view and together create a great environment for exploring and connecting. Read our interview with the President of Logos, Emanuil Mavrodiev, and learn more about the club.
How would you describe your club in 3 words?
challenging, inspiring, friendship
What is your club about?
We are a group of friends who gather every week to discuss topics beyond the surface. We love to challenge our minds with interesting discussions and enrich our worlds with different perspectives. In that way, we want to form convictions with substance and learn more about the Christian philosophy of life. Some of the topics we discuss are: free will vs destiny, faith vs reason, conspiracy theories, toxic relationships, how to make decisions, etc. Everyone can ask questions and speak his/her mind in a community that is open to various worldviews. Our main goal is “to explore life together.”
What kind of people are you looking for in your club?
We look for people who like to think, ask questions and discuss ideas - people who are willing to dive deeper into the questions of life. We do not have strict membership, so everyone is welcome to join our discussions.
What kind of events do you organize?
We gather every week for our discussion meetings on Friday - 7.30 PM. We organize a lot of activities for our active members such as road trips, game nights, movie nights, dinners, acoustic sessions and many more. Once a semester, we organize a guest lecture or panel discussion for the whole campus. Usually, it covers a topic of intellectual, philosophical, spiritual or moral nature. For example, our last event in the Covid-free times was called Money Ain’t Funny where an experienced financial consultant shared his worst financial blunders and explained the connection between money and the meaning of life. We have an idea about a panel discussion between AUBG professors where students can take part in the topic selection, but whether and how this will happen depends on the situation with the pandemic.
What is the meaning behind your club’s name?
The term “logos” has significance both in Greek philosophy and Christian theology. In the stoic philosophy, “logos” is usually defined as the divine reason expressed in the cosmos, giving it order, form and meaning. In the Christian tradition “logos” is identified as Christ, through whom all things are made. We believe that a great way to reach a better understanding of the world around us is by exploring it with others - and here is where Logos comes in.
How has being part of this club enhanced your AUBG experience?
For me the Logos club is an irreplaceable part of my AUBG journey. There I found true friends with whom to explore the depth and the richness of life. I found a community that supported me in my academic pursuits and personal growth. My experience as a member of the Logos club challenged me to think deeply about life, exposed me to a variety of perspectives and helped me see the world in new ways. It helped me grow as an individual with a philosophy of life!
