Read our interview with the President of the club, Veliyana Georgieva, and learn more about what they do.
How would you describe your club in three words?
Growing, ambitious, active.
What is your club about?
My club is the European Society Club at AUBG, also known as Model European Union Blagoevgrad. We are a club dedicated to the European Union. We organise activities related to the EU and all of our 26 members are very passionate about the Union and political simulations. The European Society Club is very closely related to the Political Science and European Studies majors, but we do have people who have completely different majors. You don’t have to be a POS or EUR major to be valuable in the club.
What kind of people are you looking for in the club?
We are looking for hard working people who are interested in politics, the European Union, political simulations, graphic design and much more. We are a club that organises events and we have many different departments for which we need people with different interests, for example: Marketing, Sponsorship, Logistics, Content and etc.
What kind of events do you organize?
We organise a simulation of the EU Parliament and the Council of the EU for a weekend every spring. The simulations are attended by people from all over the world. This semester we organised an online simulation of the European Council, where we had people from more than 15 different countries. We also organise workshops, quiz nights and giveaways.
What is the meaning behind your club’s name?
The meaning behind the European Society Club's name is not that deep. We are just people united by our love for the EU and its values. The other name we are known by - MEU Blagoevgrad, is also the name of our main event.
How has being part of this club enhanced your AUBG experience?
The European Society Club is the first club I joined at AUBG. I attended the simulation as a high school student and I fell in love with it. The community is amazing and seeing my peers in the roles of European leaders is always interesting. In the European Society Club, you can really find people with whom you can discuss recent European issues with and I very much enjoy that.
