AUBG Establishes Student Support Fund
In light of the COVID-19 crisis, AUBG has launched a fund to support both continuing and newly admitted students. The AUBG Student Support Fund aims to help students continue their education next semester in a time where they might not be able to rely on Work and Travel earnings or family support.
The university depends on the entire AUBG community – faculty, staff, board members, and alumni – to collect the necessary amount of $500,000 and provide a one-time financial aid of up to $1,500 per student with financial need.
All members of the AUBG leadership team and many faculty members have already committed and donated to the cause. So far, AUBG has allocated over $300,000 towards the fund and needs support to gather the remaining $200,000. America for Bulgaria Foundation, on the other hand, will provide matching funds towards alumni donations to double their contributions.
Apart from direct financial aid, AUBG is exploring various other opportunities to help current students support themselves, such as student loans under favorable conditions, employment and internship opportunities, and research assignments.
When the news of the coronavirus outbreak first arrived, AUBG promptly switched to online education, provided its international students with support to leave the country and created the necessary conditions for students who could not leave to stay safe on campus. As the pandemic measures have been easing both globally and in Bulgaria, the university administration hopes and strives to welcome students back on campus this fall.
Anyone who wishes to contribute to the fund can do so online or via a bank transfer. Donations are tax-deductible, as per the applicable legislation in the country of donation.
