AFC Griffins is all about keeping a healthy mindset in a healthy body while spending some quality time with great people. Read our interview with the President of the Griffins, Mladen Pecakovski, and hear what he has to say about the club.
How would you describe your club in 3 words?
Family, Sports, Family
What is your club about?
Our club is with the main goal of making and keeping people healthy. American Football is a sport that requires lots of physical strength and conditioning and if your body gets used to it, you will be in a good shape. Through health of body we try to achieve health of mind and nice bonds develop between the players and the people in the departments.
What kind of people are you looking for in your club?
We are looking for willing people. This sport is not that popular in Bulgaria or the Balkans so we always look for people who are willing and patient enough to learn about this sport and spread awareness.
What kind of events do you organize?
We constantly organize games where we simulate the game and invite anyone to join. We also organize social nights whether that is watching NFL games on Sunday night or grilling some kebapcheta and chilling around the grill.
What is the meaning behind your club’s name?
The meaning behind the name Griffins is the pride the original members had for AUBG and their mascot. The original idea for Griffins was that it becomes a university American football team just like it is in the USA.
How has being part of this club enhanced your AUBG experience?
I met some of my greatest friends in the club and among the club’s alumni. Not only that, but we have started the development of a Bulgarian league for American football together with over 200 other people in Bulgaria who are huge fans of the sport. From the moment I joined to this day there are now 6 new teams around Bulgaria so I would say we did something good.
