BVCA and AUBG Launch a Course on Venture Capital and Private Equity

AUBG and the Bulgarian Private Equity and Venture Capital Association (BVCA) jointly launched a course on Venture Capital and Private Equity for fourth-year Bachelor students this spring semester.
Classes began in January 2022, and the course targets students interested in both investment and entrepreneurship. The first half of the course focuses on the underlying theories of equity and venture capital, examining the latest industry trends and the best global practices, while the second part is practically oriented and includes presentations by guest speakers from the Southeast Europe ecosystem.
The course is taught by Tihomir Dyankov ('11), a member of the Advisory Board of BVCA, Partner at Empower Capital, and an AUBG graduate. "I am glad to have the opportunity to teach a course that introduces students to the latest global trends in the work of private equity and venture capital funds," he said. “The curriculum, which we created specifically for AUBG, combines serious theoretical training and the opportunity to put into practice the semester's learnings by working on real-world examples from the industry in the region. In this way, we follow AUBG's philosophy of allowing its students to close the gap between classroom knowledge and the daily needs of the industry’s professionals.”
Guest lecturers in the course will be the partners at Eleven Ventures and LAUNCHub Ventures Daniel Tomov and Todor Breshkov, BVCA Chairman Evgeni Angelov, BVCA Director Maria Marinova, and Elvin Guri, Managing Partner at Empower Capital.
Students will have the opportunity to apply what they have learned during the semester through a detailed analysis and evaluation of a company, part of the portfolio of a BVCA, the results of which will be presented to all visiting entrepreneurs and investors.
"The LAUNCHub Ventures team and I are extremely enthusiastic and happy that this course is already a fact," said Todor Breshkov, Managing Partner at LAUNCHub Ventures. “My goal during the classes will be to pass on my knowledge to the students, as well as the reasons why I invest in start-up companies."
"The course on equity and venture capital is a valuable opportunity for students to get acquainted with the rapidly developing venture capital industry on a regional and global scale, as well as the practical work and specifics of an investment team like Eleven,” said Daniel Tomov ('97), founding partner at Eleven Ventures, an AUBG alumnus and a member of the university's board.
