Broadway Performance Club: ‘Brave, Creative, Restless’
If you are interested in dancing, singing and acting you can find all of that at the Broadway Performance Club. Here you will work with passionate artists and become part of iconic musicals interpreted by AUBG students on different stages in Bulgaria's biggest cities. Read our interview with the President of BPC, Victoria Angelova, and learn more about the magical things they do.
How would you describe your club in 3 words?
brave, creative, restless
What is your club about?
If I had to synthesize what our club is about in one sentence, I would say that BPC is about creating a family of art enthusiasts and bringing renowned Broadway musicals to the Bulgarian stage. But also, it is about being passionate about what you do and putting your heart and soul into a production which has the potential to reach thousands of people. Put simply, we create magic.
What kind of people are you looking for in your club?
There is this common misconception that you have to be the greatest singer, the greatest actor, or the greatest dancer to be in the musical. This is simply not true. We are looking for people who are not afraid to put the time and effort into the production and who are as passionate about putting on a great show as we are.
What kind of events do you organize?
The tour that we organize is our main event. We visit six major Bulgarian cities and present our hard work to audiences far beyond the scope of the AUBG campus. Typically, our productions reach over 6000 people each year. We also participate in other events that we are invited to. Those would include events such as the AUBG Open House, the City Officials Cocktail, etc.
What is the meaning behind your club’s name?
I think it is pretty straightforward – we perform Broadway musicals and we are a club!
How has being part of this club enhanced your AUBG experience?
Oh, I could perhaps give a whole lecture on that but for the sake of brevity, being a part of BPC has given me just as much (if not more) as I have given to it. I have always been passionate about arts and theatre in particular, and BPC has been able to satisfy this need of mine for creative expression – even though I have stood behind the stage for the most part. It is a great way to meet new people who share this passion with you but who are also future professionals in many different fields. I think being in a club [at AUBG], whatever that club is, is of upmost importance. It gives you something meaningful to do, it enhances many of your soft skills (and not only), and it provides you with a great networking opportunity.
