How would you describe your club in 3 words?
Enthusiastic, Creative, Positive.
What is your club about?
Our mission is to enrich the AUBG community by showing our fellow students the magic of Bulgarian folklore dancing. Bulgarian Folk Dance Club “Samodiva” expands its participants’ knowledge of different Bulgarian traditions in a fun and interactive way. We are honored to represent the Bulgarian spirit as part of AUBG’s diverse community!
What kind of people are you looking for in your club?
We are open to creative, positive, and hard-working people who would like to explore Bulgarian folklore through dancing and acting! We love to see enthusiasm and willingness to learn from our members.
What kind of events do you organize?
Bulgarian Folk Dance Club “Samodiva” organizes its annual artistic performance every Spring semester. Every year, we choose a Bulgarian play that we recreate through dancing and acting, always adding our own little twist! After months of hard work, we present our play in two days on the stage of the Carl Djerassi Theater. Additionally, we take part in the AUBG International Week and present Bulgaria during the Taste and Dance Fest. We are open to collaborations with other AUBG clubs as well.
What is the meaning behind your club’s name?
The Samodivas are beautiful mythical creatures from Bulgarian folklore who are known for their enchanting songs and dances. They are forever young, and so is our club – every year, we welcome new members who contribute with fresh ideas.
How has being part of this club enhanced your AUBG experience?
I have practiced Bulgarian dances before starting my education at AUBG. Thus, I decided to apply for the club in my freshman year and have been part of it ever since then. I have found people with similar interests, sharing similar passions, and that’s how the magic happens. I am confident to say that BFDC “Samodiva” is not only about dances, it is also about friendships, understanding, and creating unforgettable moments. I am more than grateful that AUBG gives us the opportunity to build upon not only educational skills, but also interpersonal ones by taking part in the university clubs.
